ABOUT ME:
While concurrently working in my IT career I became an advocate for governance and education which stemmed my emergence to leadership in the board of elections and PTA on the local, county and state level. My role included presiding on the local level to orchestrating training conferences on the county level to ensure that our standards were in compliance among all 55,000 members.
HOW DID I GET HERE:
I wanted to combine my risk management and IT experience with my continued drive for advocacy in governance and compliance. Earning a degree in Cybersecurity Management and Policy gives me the opportunity to expand my unique abilities. With my background and the tools from my degree program, I will continue to push forward implementing process improvements, policies and best practices information security.
- My career began at Sedgwick (now Marsh) as a licensed Property & Casualty insurance agent. I worked as an Account Administrator for PGA TOUR's Tournament Liability program. This experience laid the foundation for my background in evaluating risk through identification, assessment and formulating procedures for risk mitigation.
- I joined Marriott's Corporate Risk Management division after relocating to Maryland. I learned about the technical side of the business by working my way from the desktop support to working as a Programmer Analyst providing 24/7 database production support. In this position I was implementing information security practices without realizing it. From monitoring interfaces, on/off-boarding, table-top exercises, backups, upgrades, patching, testing and validation - security was an integral part of my job.
